βοΈ Playing the game
How do I play Wordchux? +
Wordchux gives you a grid of letter tiles. Trace a path across neighboring tiles to spell a word β anywhere from 2 to 15 letters long. Valid words are scored and added to your found-words list.
- Touch a starting letter and drag across connecting tiles to build your word.
- Lift your finger to submit. Valid words score points; invalid ones simply clear.
- Keep finding words to rack up your score and work toward clearing the board.
How long does a game last? +
Play continues as you find words. Once you've played 100 letters, the board clears and refreshes so you can keep going. You can also end a game manually with the End Game button, or start fresh with New Game.
What words are allowed? +
Wordchux uses a built-in word list to validate your words β no internet connection required. If a word isn't accepted, it may not be in the dictionary or may be too short (words must be at least 2 letters).
Which devices are supported? +
Wordchux runs on iPhone and iPad, in both portrait and landscape. Make sure your device is running a recent version of iOS/iPadOS for the best experience.
πΏοΈ Hints & Chux
Who is Chux? +
Chux is your friendly groundhog companion. When you start a game with hints on, Chux points you toward words and shows their definitions. With hints off, Chux instead offers up some delightfully strange advice.
How do I turn hints on or off? +
Choose your mode from the main menu: Play with hints or Play without hints. Hints are a great way to learn new words; hints-off is the purer challenge.
Can I look up what a word means? +
Yes. Open your found-words list (the History button) to review the words you've played and see their definitions. It's a handy way to build your vocabulary.
How do I get Chux off the screen? +
Tap Shoo Chux! to dismiss the mascot if he's in your way during a game.
β Scoring & multiplier tiles
How is my score calculated? +
Each letter tile has a point value (shown in its corner). Your word's score is the sum of its letters, boosted by any multiplier tiles you trace through. Longer and rarer words generally earn more.
What do the colored 2Γ, 3Γ and 5Γ tiles do? +
Those are multiplier tiles. Routing your word through a 2Γ, 3Γ or 5Γ tile multiplies your points for that word β so planning a path that hits a high multiplier can dramatically boost your score.
ποΈ Power moves
What does Shuffle do? +
Shuffle rearranges the letters on the board to give you fresh options. It costs 50 points each time, so use it when you're truly stuck.
What is βHit Meβ? +
Hit Me fills empty slots on the board with new letters. You can use it once per game, so save it for when you need a boost of fresh tiles.
Can I undo a word? +
Yes. Undo reverses your last played word, returning those tiles and the points to the board state before that move.
π Leaderboard
How does the leaderboard work? +
The leaderboard keeps your top 10 scores. When you earn a qualifying score, you can enter a short name to display next to it. If you skip the name, it shows as βAnonymous.β
Is the leaderboard online or shared with other players? +
No β the leaderboard is stored only on your device. Your scores and names aren't uploaded, shared, or compared against other players. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How do I reset or clear my scores? +
You can clear the leaderboard from within the app where that option is available. Deleting the app also removes all saved scores and settings from your device.
π Remove Ads & purchases
How do I remove ads? +
Tap Remove Ads in the app to make a one-time purchase through the App Store. Once it completes, interstitial ads stop appearing.
I bought Remove Ads but still see ads. What do I do? +
- Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple Account used for the purchase.
- Use Restore Purchases in the app to re-sync your entitlement.
- Confirm you have an internet connection so the App Store can verify the purchase.
- Try closing and reopening the app.
If ads still appear after that, email us with your device model and (if you have it) the App Store receipt, and we'll help.
I reinstalled or got a new device β how do I get Remove Ads back? +
Remove Ads is a non-consumable purchase, so it's tied to your Apple Account. Use Restore Purchases while signed in with the same Apple Account, and your ad-free upgrade will be reinstated at no extra charge.
How do I request a refund? +
Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple. You can request a refund through Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. We're unable to process refunds directly.
π οΈ Troubleshooting
The game won't load or crashes. +
- Force-close the app and reopen it.
- Restart your device.
- Make sure iOS/iPadOS and the app are updated to the latest version.
- If it persists, email us with your device model and iOS version.
There's no sound. +
Check the in-game sound toggle (the speaker icon), make sure your device isn't muted or in silent mode, and confirm the volume is turned up.
Does Wordchux work offline? +
Yes β the game and its word list run on your device, so you can play without a connection. An internet connection is only used to show ads (in the free version) and to verify purchases.
How do I delete all my data? +
Deleting the app removes all locally stored data, including your scores, leaderboard names, settings, and game progress. See the Privacy Policy for more.
